DARRINGTON FEAST AND FAYRE
The 2017 Darrington Feast and Fayre takes place on Saturday 17th June with this year holding the special 20th anniversary run. In a slight change to previous years the profit made from the run will go towards a parish council project to invest in a defibrillator for the village.
We are delighted to welcome back Knottingley Concert Brass along with DB3 again for our musical entertainment. As ever our dance group will be Dance Fusion.
We really struggled last year for helpers to set up, put away and help in various tasks on the day so as an incentive every volunteer will receive a raffle ticket with a prize for the volunteer with the winning ticket. We cannot stress enough to make sure the event continues in future years we must get new support.
As we are still in the early planning stages more details will be announced nearer the time but if you can get involved please visit our Facebook page or website or contact Samwood3004@googlemail.com
King for 2017 is Ben Banks attended by Thomas Grace Nicholls. Queen is Martha Fieldhouse attended by Molly Bennett & Evie Cook.
As ever we are seeking volunteers to help with setting up on Friday evening and Saturday morning and people to stay back after event to help pack away. It cannot be stressed enough just how much muscle we do need in this vital role.
There are a number of other ways to get involved too. The organising committee is a group of volunteers who steer and plan the event. This is split into a number of roles:
Chair: Responsible for the overall planning and co ordination of the event.
Treasurer: Responsible for all the financial aspects of the event such as ; Paying suppliers, reimbursing costs, managing floats, cashing up and banking.
Volunteer coordinator: Responsible for obtaining volunteers to help in the event build up and breakdown along , 5 mile run marshalling, stall and games manning, catering stall manning , litter picking and a multitude of other things that are necessary for a successful event.
Stalls coordinator: Responsible for selling space to the stall holders and managing them throughout the day.
Programme producer: Responsible for the editorial and advertising content, the programme design and preparation, Printing and distribution.
Five Mile Run event coordinator: Responsible for promoting the five mile run, managing the entries, organisation of the course in terms of marshalling and road closures, Police notification etc. Managing the runners on the day.
Other roles during the event such as the technical side setting up speakers, maypoles, and generally ensuring the smooth running of the day are unnamed but vital to the success of the event.
Volunteers on the day can give as little or as much of their time as they want. From just an hour helping a stall or event to run to all day if they wish. One thing is for sure: The event will not be a success without them.
This is an event enjoyed by hundreds of our local residents and is organised by local residents, the proceeds of which go towards the ongoing maintenance of our village field and its fabulous facilities.
Everyone who would like to help in any capacity will be made to feel very welcome . If you would like to volunteer please contact Mrs Sam Wood on 01977 706479.
